Let's see..
* I was likely studying Systems development in Skövde around that time.. I know that from vague date knowledge ofc but also as it was the time where I started listening to podcasts. The first one that stuck with me was RadioLab... and though they mostly post re-runs these days, they're still pretty decent every now and then.
* Hah... and I used to have some 700+ followers on Instagram. Fairly sure that account helped me gain my first real employment too... but I don't miss it for a second... even how it was then. Now it's enshittified tenfold.. Basically TikTok for for people in denial.
* Guess I used Pocket back then too.. tried replacing it with Wallabag also but the entire practise of collecting articles on the internet to read rarely pans out. Most things are paywalled today either way...
* I can see that I got Baconreader in the bottom right corner there as well so this is around the time that Reddit started to decline.

I think it's somewhere in between getting older and realizing what matters combined with the internet actually enshittifying by the day. Data is in silos, can't share anything if the buddy doesn't have an account.. Reddit used to be "RSS with public meritocracy" now it's crappy self-help and vapid affirmations for semi-anonymous people...

So far so good as far as weekends go.

Yesterday I aligned to cook a Swedish classic for my (Portuguese) in-laws and my partner.

I made Isterband med dillstuvad potatis!
I even bothered spoiling the potatoes. Boiling them, letting them cool, cutting them, butterfrying them and THEN stirring them in a thick nice sauce with onions and dill (and a touch of mustard powder!)... delicious!

And because we had initial fears that one sausage might not be enough for everyone, everyone also got a fried egg and we put some Chouriço Picante served assado...it really tasted like chili fruit which I loved very much! Packed a bit of a punch too!

Today is substantially more layed back so far, thank heavens. Just the bi-weekly weekend lunch with @dotmargui, the maternal grandparents, uncle Nuno and (his now pregnant) partner Sofia. Other than that I've just been coding on work-adjacent and personal projects.

Someone told me that modern logos have a "sphincter design"... I scoffed at that initially...but... I'm starting to involountarily collect them myself...

There's so much going on in my life this week that I've struggled to even formulate a decent update post.

1. Holy Allfather... We got the apartment!! 🥳 - I went to my partners work and met up with the seller and people involved and signed the papers and...now it's happening. A couple of days over 2 years and it finally happened. Who says hard work doesn't pay off?
2. Today marks my partners birthday and there's been an absolutely insane amount of prep involved with that. Today I will be making potato salad, meatballs and serve Swedish things for 15 Portuguese people. 🇸🇪
3. Today marks the end of my White Month. I took one, not because I have problems with the drink, but because Portuguese culture is a culture on the move...there's no "cry in front of Band of Brothers with ibuprofen and a kebab roll" the Day After here...no no... no breaks on this train... and so to keep up with work and the apartment stuff I just went into focus-mode...but tonight I'm having some Mead from Casa do Fauno! 🧙‍♂️
4. We also celebrated my partners best friend the other day, Catarina. She took us and her family to a cozy little gastrobar type thing, highly enjoyable...but that day I had breakfastlunch at 4pm, we ate there at 22 and I got home around 2am... hahahaha... I've been cooked! 😮‍💨
5. Doing 8 hour minimum work days and then jogging/Uber to stores to buy my partner gifts, Swedish ingredients from the store in Parede...all that crazy stuff... I'm so done with this week already... I've had TONS and TONS of fun and met lots of new people that are awesome...but I can't wait to stare at some crosswords and breathe. 🤪

Made potato soup for the family dinner tonight.

Recipe for the curious:
* 7 big potatoes
* half a courgette
* 1 big onion
* 7 cloves of garlic
* chop greens and stir in olive oil until everything softens before adding water, add water, boil until everything is boiled through, blast with a wand mixer, salt, freshly ground black pepper, powdered white pepper, rosemary, a hint of nutmeg, a big dollop of greek yoghurt, a knife's edge of colmans mustard powder, a knife's edge of high quality butter.

I just binged the entirety of Splinter Cell: Deathwatch in one sitting.

Been a long time fan... think I played a demo of Pandora Tomorrow...but then I bought Chaos Theory for the PS2 in my teens and as strange at it seems to say at the age of 33...that game had a surprising amount of impact on me! I love the hell out of that game...and it's plot! and it's soundtrack! The soundtrack by Amon Tobin made me explore IDM and electronic music in ways I hadn't before.

This series has also been in discussion for many many years and so to pick it up on the day it released on Netflix felt just right.

What do I rate it? A biased 7/10
It's probably a strong 6 but I'm too smitten by the concept and fan service right now to see it most likely.

Honestly the vibe in terms of "how do we depict the up-and-comer (in this case the character Zinnia) made me think of Invincible, that I haven't finished all of yet... but she was allowed to be vulnerable and sloppy due to inexperience while Sam displayed the same for the opposite reasons. All in all it was well written... I guess my main gripe is that it's "decidedly more Blacklist and beyond than Chaos Theory" in that there aren't that many moments of sneaky infiltration and more personal intrigue in a neo-cold-war-tinged thriller kind of setting.

All good though. Time to go give my partner some kisses and call it a night.

Gonna try to get some sleep...
